Lids must fit the teapot perfectly to retain tea flvour and aroma.
Desin of the teapot handles must be comfortable. The curve and thickness must be appropriately balanced. The handles should align with the spout for handling.

The quality of the clay teapot can be assessed by the pitc which emits from the friction caused by the cover aainst the mouth of the teapot. The high pitch teapot should brew tea of best fragrance, such as Tie Guan Yin and Dong Ding. The low pitch teapots is for brewing tea which requires sustained heat, such as aged Pu Er and Shui Xian.
The size of the teapot depends on its use. Normally, tall teapots with a small flange are good for brewing fermented tea leave. Short teapots with big flange are more suitable for mildly fermented tea leaves.
Take note of the odour in the teapot. If it is smells of oil,colour stain, or other undesirable aterial, the teapot must have been contaminated. Generally,all new teapots only smells of clay. They can be used after cleaning.
